Do you know how many of your recipients are viewing emails on a mobile device, the number is increasing. According to a recent survey, over 20% of the US will own a cell phone with email integration by the end of 2008.
To stay current with your recipients, modify your email messaging to make them mobile friendly:
- Survey recipients to determine their message type preferences (HTML or text/ mobile friendly).
- Use multi-part (HTML and text) as your lowest common denominator, this could cover you until you are able to survey recipients.
- Consider restating your main offer or subject line as the first line of the email’s body (before the “If you can not see this click here”) By doing this, your recipients will get the gist of your message without needing to see the associated image.

Allen,
Typically people are using mobile devices for email triage. I think its best to investigate your target audience and what sort of device that they will be using and then optimize with your ESP vendor. In #3 above you are basically saying to use a pre-header text which most companies use “if you cannot see…..” tag line. My suggestion is to either repeat your subject line or modify it to gain interest. Again, it all depends on you subscriber base.
