Is Email Marketing…Green? | Mansell Group: Let's Talk Email, SMS Mobile, Voice, Internet Web 2.0

Is Email Marketing…Green?

Can email marketing be part of the green economy…the green revolution…the enviro-friendly cool crowd?  Just think, you are driving down the road and see a Hybrid-SUV (give me a break I live in South) with a sticker on the back that says “Save the Planet by Emailing”.

There are many ways that email marketing is green.  First and foremost, it is green because it is digital and not paper.  Now I am sure that we can debate the carbon footprint that is generated by all of those servers in all those fancy Data Centers burning power, and blowing nice cold air conditioning.  But seriously, I have seen several very large clients recently make a sound economic and enviromental case to its customers that allowing a digital (email) dialog is helping the planet and the organization be more “green”.

Email is certainly green in its ability to generate an ROI.  A recent Direct Marketing Association research report notes that email marketing generates a whopping $43 for every dollar spent.  I also enjoyed a recent posting on MediaPost.com that makes the case that Email is Still the Killer App!

Consider approaching your 2010 email marketing plans from a Green Perspective - make the case to your customers, members, and associates that digital (email) communications saves money, and trees.  Secondly focus on the Green of the ROI.  Email generates twice the ROI of any other marketing channel and more budgets should be allocated to this channel to beef up the ability of teams to focus on best practices and ensure high quality content is delivered on a timely basis.
